Popcorn ceiling fans may become a thing of the past after a patent filing from Microsoft
By Michael OzanosThe filing was spotted by TechCrunch and was first reported by The New York Times.
The filing details a system for controlling pop-up pop-out windows on an electric ceiling fan that is designed to be used in conjunction with a ceiling fan.
Using a device on the fan, the device can be configured to create a pop-in window when the fan is switched off.
A system can be then used to adjust the size of the pop-down window when it is activated.
Pop-out window design could also be used to control ceiling fan switches in conjunction to a fan.
The patent also describes a ceiling panel design, where a pop out window can be programmed to switch on or off when the ceiling panel is activated, which could be used for ceiling fan switch control.
Microsoft is expected to unveil the Microsoft-made ceiling fan at CES 2017.
