How to replace the ceiling fan on your home
Lowes has updated its ceiling fans with new technology to make them more efficient.
The company says it’s using a new capacitor for the new fans, and will charge customers with the cost.
Lowes says the new design allows for a 5% increase in performance over the previous version, which cost $1,200 per fan.
It adds that the company has tested the new cap on a range of models from the C7 to the C9 and recommends a $10 per-inch price increase for older models.
The new cap also means that the fan’s speed can be adjusted by 50% to 100%, up from 30% to 60%, or 80% to 90%, depending on the model.
The change comes after months of backlash from customers, including a lawsuit filed by Consumer Reports that claims the cap was designed to cost consumers more than $1 a month.
The complaint is currently under review.
